Fri-yay! Weekly Recap #17!

Fri-yay! Weekly Recap #17!

Happy pre-Halloween weekend! We aren't gonna lie...we kinda almost forgot Halloween this year. Mostly because well...parent mush brain? Does that work as an excuse?! If not, it does now so deal with it people! Thankfully, Walmart saved the day with a ridiculous assortment of licensed character costumes! Nothing says FUN! like dressing up in clothing made out of cheap plastic table cloth material for an hour or so and coming home with enough candy to send an elephant into a diabetic coma! We can't wait!

With Halloween comes Halloween parties at school! Megan (bravely) volunteered to help chaperone Olivia's First Grade Halloween Spooktacular. They had tons of fun playing games, doing Halloween word searches, and eating way too much sugar! It was an awesome time to get some "girl time" together, meet Olivia's school friends and teachers, and have a blast!

We also had Parent/Teacher conferences this week. Duh, duh, duuuuuh... (cue intense music). Ok they weren't that bad, but because this was our first time EVER doing them, we didn't really know what to expect. All we really knew about Parent/Teachers conferences is what we remembered as kids...which is basically these were a special time for parents and teachers to get together and conspire about how to make your elementary school life completely miserable for the remaining 6 months of the school year. You can understand our shock when, in actuality, this was NOT how these little meetings went. To our complete surprise, their teachers were totally normal, awesome people who love our kids and know all their little personality quirks ALREADY! We brought each of them a little package of Megan's (soon to be) World Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies because bribery never hurt anyone, right?! It was interesting to see the whole experience as a parent and we are proud to say, the kids are doing pretty awesome in school! However, we can't guarantee we didn't conspire just a little bit with their teachers to make their lives a little bit miserable. ;-) After all, that's part of any healthy childhood right?!

Finally, we had one of our first ever Premier Nights this week! We had so much fun with the Ward Family! It truly is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do when we get to sit down with a family and do their image reveal.  We really want this to be a special moment for each and every family we photograph. We love hearing their reactions, seeing the tears of joy, and helping them use their images to turn their house into a home! It really was a special time, and we are so glad they loved their photos...but we're even more glad that we got to hang out with them, get to know them, and help them celebrate their beautiful family! If you'd like more information about what we do, or what our Premier Night is all about, go ahead and contact us and we'd love to share our vision for photography, family, and how you can use your photographs to showcase your beautiful family!

Have a safe and happy Halloween weekend everyone! We'll catch y'all again on Monday!

Fri-Yay! Weekly Recap #16!

Fri-Yay! Weekly Recap #16!

Hi Friends! It's Fri-yay and we are excited for another weekend!

Last week we shared our secret about being nervous to get in front of the camera for our family photo shoot. We (ok, just Megan) couldn't figure out what to wear and we stressed about whether or not our outfits would look good. Well we are happy to report that our session went amazing!  Mostly because of our amazing Photographer Lauren, of Lunabear Studios, was absolutely charming and put up with our crazies like a boss! We are now waiting on pins and needles for our photos to come back and its given us a taste of our own medicine because...We. Are. Dying. To. See. Them. We may or may not be stalking our email and Facebook to see if she's posted any.

Wednesday we talked about how to take better photos with your phone. Most people whip out their phones and just hit the button and don't think twice about it! We understand that not everyone has the time to invest in lighting courses, composition seminars, exposure triangle tutorials, or advanced editing techniques. But that doesn't mean your phone photos have to look horrible!! So instead of you investing tons of hours and dollars to learn loads of super fancy photo techniques, we have decided to help you guys out and share some of our favorite tips! Go read it, you will be glad you did!

Busy portrait season means, client orders are rolling in and we are LOVING it! It's seriously like Christmas morning every time FexEx or UPS rolls up...except the presents aren't for us, they're for our beautiful clients! The quality of these prints are amazing and the colors are perfectly precise!  We love them so much, the struggle is real to not keep them all to ourselves! Keep your eyes open for some more sneak peeks of product orders. They are all beautiful and will be such a great addition to your home!

Finally, we're excited to say that IT'S UPGRADE TIME! We have a couple lenses for sale because we are committed to using the best possible equipment we can to give our clients the best possible images we can! That said, we are selling a couple of our old lenses that we don't really use anymore so that we can buy ourselves a shiny new one. We have a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and a Canon 50mm f/1.4 for sale. Both are great upgrades from the average kit lens you probably got with your camera. They are both in great condition and come with original boxes and accessories. If you want one of these little beauties, we'll even throw in a FREEBIE 30-60 minute mentoring session to teach you the basics of your camera! All you gotta do is shoot us an email and they're yours!

That's all from us! Have a safe and happy weekend everyone! :-)

Fri-yay! Weekly Recap #15!

Fri-yay! Weekly Recap #15!

We are here to serve up another weekly dose of random facts from Megan and James Land that we just want you to know about! Basically we do these recaps so you don't have to Facebook-stalk us all week like a bunch of weirdos! Although, we are total Facebook-stalkers too, so I guess we'll jump on board the weirdo train with y'all and enjoy the ride!

First off, Eli had his first soccer game of the season last weekend. Poor guy was recovering from a cold/virus/death-plague/James Earl Jones as Darth Vader voiceover kinda thing, but he still went out and gave it his best! His team won 4-0 which was fun to watch and he thought it was the best thing ever. He didn't score goal, but there may or may not be a $5 pay out if he does this week. In other news, children's sports are always such a refining process for the parents. I keep reliving my old soccer days and trying to help but then I get scowled at and told to "be quiet" by my kid. Doesn't he know I'm just trying to help??

Second fun Fri-yay fact...this weekend were getting our family photos done and I've been in stress mode trying to find outfits for everyone. I try my hardest to follow all my rules, especially the one about not stressing out, but somehow I still found myself running through 3 stores the other day in the 45 minutes I had until the kids got off school to find just the right shirts for the boys and dresses in the right sizes. In the end though, I only bought Eli's shirt and Olivia's dress, pretty good if you ask me!

Speaking of what to wear, this week we finished up our final blog post in our series "What to wear Wednesdays." It was all about letting your kids personality shine through in your photos. We love kids, we love their spunk, and we want to see it on camera! We also talked about the importance of matching your outfit colors to your house colors. Pretty genius if you ask us! When you get your photos back and you put them up on your walls, it becomes your art in your home. You invested time and money into it, so you should be proud to throw those beautiful images up on your walls! We want to make it easy on our clients to figure out what to wear so if you want a copy of our Portrait Session Style Guide we would love to send it to you! Just write us at hello@meganandjamesphotography or sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of our homepage and we will gladly send it your way! It's our free gift to you just for signing up!

That's it for now! We have another exciting weekend ahead with soccer games, weddings, and sessions. It's going to be a good one! Be safe and have a great weekend!
