Can we get an Amen for Fall and this amazing weather?! In case you didn't know, we are full-fledged Arizonans nowadays, so as counter-intuitive as it may seem, when the weather dips below triple digits, all of us Arizona kids break out our hoodies and act like it's cold. We know, we know...we sound semi-ridiculous to the rest of the country. But when you're used to sweating from every pore in your entire body for four months straight, it's nice to have a little reprieve and wake up to a morning of mid-sixties temps in September. Granted, we know that by lunch time our pores will start working overtime again and we will feel the cold rush of dollar bills blowing out our air vents as our A/C kicks on...again. But when you wake up and its 66 degrees, it's nice to know that the end of the face-melting heat is in sight and we begin to remember why we moved to this beautiful state in the first place! All that to say, this beautiful weather has knocked us out of our four-month-long heat stroke/coma/hibernation/delirium and we're ready to kick off Fall with another installment of our Fri-yay Weekly Recap!
This week we took a trip to Home Depot because Megan got the urge to decorate something...which just sorta happens sometimes. I think it's in her DNA or something and every once in a while she will start uncontrollably muttering things like "color coordination" or "beautification" or other Pinteresty-type stuff and we will all know it's time to pile into the minivan and head to the big orange home improvement emporium. This week her barely incomprehensible mutterings included the word "succulents." So off we went like Bilbo and the dwarves to the Lonely Mountain of Home Depot in search of a great treasure hoard of succulents. Thankfully we didn't find any dragons along the way, although it is getting close to Halloween in Retail Land so we might have found one if we looked, but we did find loads of succulents to appease Megan's cravings! After living in the Arizona desert for a full 10 years we are here to say we have fully embraced our Arizona home and all the spiny plant life that comes along with it! As we all trekked back home, I think Megan muttered something about wanting to bring that "Arizona swag to our home decor game" or something like that. She says the weirdest things sometimes. Ok ok, she didn't say it like that exactly, but you get the gist. ;-) We think the end result turned out pretty cute and awesome despite the fact that she may or may not speak a little strangely sometimes.
Also this week, we commemorated an important event in our nation's history. This week marked the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and United Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. We had the honor of photographing an event to honor those who lost their lives during that tragic day and to celebrate our first responders and military service members who put their lives on the line everyday to keep our nation safe. During the event, a replica of the Ground Zero Cross that was found a few days after the attacks at The World Trade Center, was erected and dedicated to remember the tragic events of 15 years ago. We are thankful every single day that we get to live in a country so full of people who are willing to sacrifice so much for our country. It made us stop and reflect on the nature of freedom and how precious it really is. Despite what we may see on the news everyday, we are so grateful to live in this country and we were honored to be asked to photograph such an important event.
