What to Wear Wednesday 2nd Edition!

What to Wear Wednesday 2nd Edition!

What to Wear Wednesday is back! This is the second installment of our blog mini series where we help you dress your best without the stress. If you missed the first installment you can find it here. Today we want to talk about coordinating your colors. We've made it our mission to banish the matchy-matchy trend!! Seriously though, the days of khaki or denim pants with all white or black shirts are gone. They have gone the way of fanny packs and shoulder pads. I mean, really. Just don't go there people. So with that said, don’t be afraid to mix it up and add some color! Like we said last week, start with one outfit, dress, or accessory and build around it. If your daughter has a favorite multi-colored dress, pull out colors from it and use them as your guide to pick other complimentary colors.

Here are a few more helpful tips to help you coordinate those colors to make you and your family really pop on camera...

*Choose 2-3 main colors and and maybe throw in 1 other little splash of color to build your outfits.

*Steer clear of fluorescents, as they tend to look strange through the camera. Use primary colors or pastels instead. Blue (navy, royal), gold, Yellow (mustard), red (maroon, brick) or turquoise are great alternatives.

*Keep skin colors in mind. If your family has lighter skin tones they might look better in darker colors like navy or maroon. Darker skin tones tend to look great in lighter colors! Turquoise or another pastel could be your best friend.

*The key to coordinating multiple outfits is not to be too “matchy-matchy.” That’s the technical term, in case you were wondering. ;-) The family below picked purple, off white, and various shades of denim. Every member of their family represents at least a couple of those complimentary colors. No one is wearing the exact same outfit but it totally works! The color really brings out their personalities too. I can tell you these girls are all different and their outfits match them PERFECTLY!

*Be careful when mixing patterns and prints. You do not want the clothes to be too distracting and take away from your beautiful faces!  Avoid shirts with big logos, graphics, characters, or labels. It’s distracting and takes away from the real focus...which is YOU!

*We want to see your families' personality come out in your photos!  So remember no all white or all black! Have we mentioned you should throw in a splash of color?! Color, color, color...ok...we think you get the point...color... ;-) So don't be afraid to change it up and have fun! You'll look great, feel fabulous, and you'll have some amazing photos to show off on your wall!

The Wouters Family - A fun in the sun family session in Dana Point

The Wouters Family - A fun in the sun family session in Dana Point

Dear Blog... We are sorry we have neglected you for a MONTH. It's not you, it was us. We were having too much fun playing at the beach, being lazy and eating too many cookies. We knew we needed some family time. Time to regroup. Time to refresh our minds and our souls. So we took it. And it was awesome. We are so thankful for time together to make memories, to think, to pray and to get ready for the fall! It's going to be a great rest of the year filled with new experiences, new joys, new trials and, thanks to our month off, we are pumped and ready!

But enough about that, we want you to feast your eyes on this beautiful family! We might be biased about these guys because, well, we've known them for 10 YEARS, but we think the Wouters are pretty awesome. When we first met them we were all young married couples learning the ropes of marriage and adulting. Shortly after we met, both Sherri and I bonded over pregnancy, coffee and eventually babies. Then as the years went on, we had more kids, life got crazy, we didn't hang out as much but we always stayed close. Now that we live closer, our kids are growing up together, we drink wine together, we workout together and we cannot imagine it any other way! In fact thats how we planned their session! They wanted something different, something fun, so we packed up and went to the beach! Their whole family embraced us and allowed us to join in on their vacation and it was awesome.

We had a blast finding new places, laughing and getting honked at! Yeah, jumping into the middle of a busy intersection to get the shot wasn't the brightest thing Megan has ever done but hey we got the shot! Although we learned that next year we should do the photo shoot at the BEGINNING of the week so we're not all sunburned and tired!

Thank you guys for a fun week, for allowing us to capture you and your family, and for letting us be a part of your tribe! We couldn't imagine life without you!

Miss K. is Now Six Months Old!

Miss K. is Now Six Months Old!

Miss K. and her sweet gummy smile melted our hearts from the moment she came in the door! We loved seeing her again three months after her last photos, she has gotten so big and even more beautiful! Since it's Phoenix and its a million degrees outside we decided to set up a small indoor studio and we are so glad we did! We are so excited about expanding our business to support studio photos in our home, it's something we have been wanting to do for a while, and we are so glad we finally got a chance to give it a shot! Miss K. was our perfect little angel to test it out on. She was so patient and easy to work with...just like her mama! She rocked her smile, a little attitude (hello adorable!) and practiced sitting up like such a big girl! We also can't go on without talking about about her sweet Momma Megan (Who also has an awesome name, btw...). She was so flexible and willing to try it something new with us, and even brought some of her own props from her baby shower! We love our clients, we love getting to know their families, we love building relationships, and getting to know them more than as just "clients." Becoming friends, laughing throughout photo shoots, planning fun new ideas, working together to complete the vision we have in our heads, that's what makes the whole experience worth it!

We cannot wait to see Miss. K again! These milestone Minis are quickly becoming our new favorites. It's like getting the benefits of having a new squishy baby to squeeze but without all the sleepless nights and responsibility! See you again in a few months sweet girl. Thank you for your bright smile!
