The Wouters Family - A fun in the sun family session in Dana Point

The Wouters Family - A fun in the sun family session in Dana Point

Dear Blog... We are sorry we have neglected you for a MONTH. It's not you, it was us. We were having too much fun playing at the beach, being lazy and eating too many cookies. We knew we needed some family time. Time to regroup. Time to refresh our minds and our souls. So we took it. And it was awesome. We are so thankful for time together to make memories, to think, to pray and to get ready for the fall! It's going to be a great rest of the year filled with new experiences, new joys, new trials and, thanks to our month off, we are pumped and ready!

But enough about that, we want you to feast your eyes on this beautiful family! We might be biased about these guys because, well, we've known them for 10 YEARS, but we think the Wouters are pretty awesome. When we first met them we were all young married couples learning the ropes of marriage and adulting. Shortly after we met, both Sherri and I bonded over pregnancy, coffee and eventually babies. Then as the years went on, we had more kids, life got crazy, we didn't hang out as much but we always stayed close. Now that we live closer, our kids are growing up together, we drink wine together, we workout together and we cannot imagine it any other way! In fact thats how we planned their session! They wanted something different, something fun, so we packed up and went to the beach! Their whole family embraced us and allowed us to join in on their vacation and it was awesome.

We had a blast finding new places, laughing and getting honked at! Yeah, jumping into the middle of a busy intersection to get the shot wasn't the brightest thing Megan has ever done but hey we got the shot! Although we learned that next year we should do the photo shoot at the BEGINNING of the week so we're not all sunburned and tired!

Thank you guys for a fun week, for allowing us to capture you and your family, and for letting us be a part of your tribe! We couldn't imagine life without you!

Fri-yay! Weekly Recap #9!

Fri-yay! Weekly Recap #9!

So here it is! Another Friday! Which means another thrilling installment of our "Fri-yay! Weekly Recap!" We thought about titling this post series, "Spend 5 minutes reading what we've been up to for the last 7 days because everyone loves reading about other people on the internet!" but it didn't sound quite catchy enough. Aaaand, on that note...off we go!

Last Friday we geeked out a little bit and went to the birthday party of our friends' 8 year old son. Before you all freak out and call the authorities because two grown adults were crashing a child's birthday party, rest assured that we took our kids with us too. Most people don't really "geek out" while there are sixteen 8 year olds running around, but then again most 8 year olds we know don't get a mobile video game truck for their birthday! All the adults spent the first hour of the party trying to figure out what kind of genius invented this testament to modern entertainment. This thing was amazing! Even more amazing was the fact that it kept sixteen 8 and 9 year old boys QUIET and ENTERTAINED for a full two hours. If anyone out there has ever been around an 8 year old boy, they know that this was no small feat. Seriously. TWO. HOURS. This had to be some sort of record. Next time the Guinness Book of World Records is getting an invite. Not. Even. Kidding.

Sunday we spent the afternoon sliding down the "Largest Slip and Slide West of the Mississippi." This is of course an unofficial title since, for the second time in a week, we failed to call the Guinness Book to verify and recognize us for the world record. Fail. We headed over to some good friends' house again where the entire neighborhood comes out to slide down a slip and slide longer than Pinocchio's nose would be if he were running for President. The kids had so much fun and by the end of the evening they were all tuckered out. Fortunately, James decided not to utilize his mad slip and slide skills, mostly because we didn't want videos of the incident going viral on YouTube.

Tuesday night we decided to be adults and head out for a night on the town! We got invited to attend a local event put on by some awesome vendors from the event and wedding industry. It was great to get out, meet some new people, and hang out with old friends. We got to take a couple photos in the photo booth with some of our favorite clients (and Friends!) while we dressed as Batman and other superheroes. The problem was that after our photo booth session, James insisted on talking like BatDad the rest of the night. By the end of the night, Megan was asking for her mask back out of sheer embarrassment. All in all, it was a fun night out and we can't wait for next year to do it again!

Finally, in case you haven't heard, we are heading to San Diego in July! We will be there from the 13-17th and we'd love to do a few photo sessions while we're there. It's not everyday we get the opportunity take photos on a beautiful beach, so we want to make the most of it! If you're interested in a session in San Diego, send us a message! We have limited spots available and they are filling up fast!

Try and stay cool when it's 120 degrees this weekend! Have a safe and happy Father's Day! See you all next week (if we don't melt)!

Summer Fun in San Diego!

Summer Fun in San Diego!

San Diego. When you hear those words, what do you think of? Most likely you think of sandy beaches, palm trees, beautiful people, and perfect weather. When we hear those words we think of one thing: Home. For those of you who don't know, we grew up in San Diego and as much as we LOVE Arizona, San Diego will always hold a special place in our hearts. There's something about the place you grew up that seems to infuse itself into your bones and become a part of your personality. San Diego is that place for us. Marine layers, California burritos, the smell of seaweed, ocean breezes, flip flops, and putting the word "the" in front of freeway numbers will always be a part of who we are.

Like we said before, we LOVE Arizona. We've been away from San Diego for almost 10 years now and for those 10 years we've lived in Phoenix. After 10 years of saguaros, haboobs, monsoons, and desert blooms, we can officially say Phoenix is our home. We've had three children, owned a home or two, made some great friends, and explored all over this beautiful state that we call home.

But something about San Diego will always just feel right to us. Like that old pair of jeans you throw on when you just want to wear something that feels right, San Diego is that place we go when we just want to be somewhere that just feels right. Truth be told, a lot has changed in 10 years. We've changed. The place has changed. We no longer call it home, and we are glad for that (finally)! It took us about 10 years to get over our San Diego hangover and really enjoy our new desert home. But just because San Diego is no longer that best friend we see every week to have coffee with and talk about our daily lives with, that's ok. Instead, it's more like that friend you see maybe once a year, and as soon as you see that friend, it's like you were back in high school (except now you have three kids running around), you pick up right where you left off and it's like you never left.

Thankfully, we are going to be able to head back to San Diego this summer to see that old friend again! And WE. CAN'T. WAIT. As you know, Phoenix, gets "a little toasty" during the summers. We know..."It's a dry heat!" But like a wise woman told me one time, "So is my oven, but I wouldn't want to live in it!" So we'll be packing up our mini-van (oh yeah!) and trekking out to sunny San Diego in July like true Zonies! We have plans for some beach camping, ocean swimming, surfing, carne asada fry eating, and sight seeing.

We also have plans to do some amazing beach shoots while we're there! We will be in San Diego July 9-17th and,  like we said before, we can't wait! So if you live in Arizona and want to cool off for a few days AND get some gorgeous photos on the beach, come on out! To all of our San Diego friends, let's share some memories and make some new ones! We'd love to make some new friends too and capture some radiant photos while we soak up some sun! If you're interested, shoot us an email through our contact page or send us a message over on our Facebook or Instagram. Let's make summer 2016 a summer to remember!
